Johnson City, Tennessee
Johnson City, Tennessee is located in eastern Tennessee,
northeast of Knoxville near the Cherokee National
Forest. As part of eastern Tennessee known as the
Tri-Cities (Bristol, Kingsport and Johnson
City), Johnson City is the largest area in the region and was once voted by Money Magazine
as “the best place to live in the southeast”. With such
beautiful surroundings, safe and excellent schools,
friendly people, low tax rates and an abundance of fun
things to do, more and more people are realizing that
Johnson City Tennessee is a great place to call home.
Johnson City Schools
The Johnson City public schools are excellent schools
with 8 elementary schools, 1 middle school and 1 high
school serving the area. Total student enrollment for
2005-2006 school year was 6,998. Johnson City schools
have a wonderful support staff and excellent teachers
that help students strive for the best in education.
East Tennessee State University is also located in
Johnson City. The Quillen College of Medicine, a U.S.
News and World Report top ten medical school developing
primary care physicians also calls Johnson City TN home.
Milligan College is also a four year college and is
located nearby.
Hospitals/Medical
The Johnson City Medical Center serves Eastern Tennessee and is located in the city. The medical center and
the Quillen College of Medicine combine to provide the
city excellent medical care and emergency help.
Activities
Living in Johnson City Tennessee, you will never run out of things
to do and see. Johnson City has an abundance of city
parks, 19 to be exact and 5 recreation areas. These
parks have tennis courts, athletic fields, walking
paths, and swimming pools. Johnson City is just a short
trip from several state parks and the Appalachian Trail.
Within a short drive from the city, you can be near the Nolichucky River or Cherokee Lake which is perfect for
whitewater rafting, boating, swimming, fishing, hiking
and biking. In the winter, you can also drive a short
distance be near the North Carolina ski areas and enjoy
skiing and snowboarding.
Walnut
Cove Apartments are located near Willow Springs Park, one of
the most beautiful parks in Johnson City TN. The park
provides a great backdrop for walks, afternoon exercise,
or a weekend picnic. It will soon have a dog park, which
is a great way to exercise your best friend, too!
In downtown Johnson City TN there are many great little
shops and restaurants that offer everything from a
casual dining experience to full gourmet cuisines. The
Hands On! Museum is also a popular spot downtown and a
great place to take the kids. This museum lets children
explore the sciences and humanities through hands on,
interactive exhibits.
The city is also home to many historic sites from the
American Revolution and the Civil War. The Tipton-Hayes
Historical Site was the home of John Tipton, a member of
the 1776 Constitutional Convention. Johnson City
Tennessee is also
home to the birthplace of both President Andrew Jackson
and Davy Crockett. Both of these sites have tours and
historical markers denoting the places and events.
Johnson City Tennessee is also very close to Bristol Motor
Speedway, which features NASCAR racing events and many
other car events. Also located in Bristol is Bristol
Caverns, a fun place to visit and learn more about
caverns and cave structures.
Johnson City’s close proximity to Asheville, Knoxville,
Chattanooga and Gatlinburg, also make it easy to enjoy
all the fun attractions in those areas. In Asheville,
you can enjoy the many scenic drives along the Blue
Ridge Parkway, as well as the very popular and always
stunning Biltmore House. Also, just north of Asheville
is Mt. Mitchell, the Eastern United States' highest
mountain. Nearby is also the Knoxville Zoo in Knoxville
TN. Gatlinburg, TN, the heart of the Great Smoky
Mountains, would also be an easy day trip to take from
Johnson City, and is a one of a kind vacation
destination with something for everyone to enjoy. To the
south, cities like Charleston SC, Savannah GA, and
Atlanta are not too far away, and would be easy and fun
trips to take.
There is much to see and do in Eastern Tennessee,
which is just one of the many reasons why so many people
are moving to the area. With low tax rates, excellent
schools, and a safe and clean city, Johnson City
